GSO Test

Admissions

Children are permitted to start school full-time in the September following their fourth birthday (i.e. at the start of the academic year).

Every year, we welcome up to 20 new pupils into our Reception year at St Giles.  This is our agreed pupil admission number (PAN) with West Sussex County Council.  Most children start school full-time in September.  If parents think that their child is not socially, emotionally or physically ready to start school, they can start later - as long as they are in full-time education by the time they turn 5, ‘compulsory school age’.

Some children are best suited to starting school full time, while others may wish to spend longer settling in attending on a part-time timetable. We are flexible in this matter and happy to discuss your own child’s requirements with you.  It is important to note that if parents are considering a delayed start, they still need to apply for a school place at the same time as everyone else.

An in-year admission is the admission of a pupil to a school which takes place outside of the normal year of entry.  This includes: changing schools; families moving from a different country or from other parts of the UKpupils returning to a school from living elsewhere; or those who have not been in school.

During the Autumn term we hold a series of open mornings which prospective Reception parents are encouraged to attend.  However, please contact the school office at any time if you would like to arrange a visit.

All parents and carers are encouraged to apply for a school online by using the Parent Portal, details of which can be found on the admissions pages of the WSCC website at: Starting School or Moving School.

In the event of being oversubscribed we use our school’s admission policy to allocate places.  For further information regarding our admissions arrangements please read the admissions policy below.
