Homework
Children are set homework on a regular basis to enhance their learning in school and to develop good work habits in preparation for the next step in their education. We ask that parents support pupils in completing work and tasks set.
Early Years Foundation Stage
Helping your child to read and enjoy books at home is very important.
Once pupils have a grounding in phonics they take part in our Home Reading Scheme, selecting books with guidance from the class teacher, to take home and read to an adult. In addition, we strongly encourage you to read and enjoy books with your children.
Key Stage 1
At KS1 pupils should continue to read every night for 10 minutes. In addition they have some short homework tasks linked to the week’s learning or the class topic.
Key Stage 2
As pupils move through the school, homework requirements increase.
Our aim is to develop good study skills and to support and develop learning. As in Key Stage 1 pupils are encouraged to continue to read regularly - reading out loud and discussing stores is a hugely valuable activity. In addition, each class receives at least one piece of literacy and maths homework per week. Longer pieces of topic homework are set each half term.
Homework is set on a Monday and pupils have a week to complete it, handing it back to their teachers the following Monday.
