Forest Schools
We offer Forest Schools sessions to every child in St Giles. Each class has one term of sessions per year, where children spend a morning being taught outside, regardless of the weather.
Parents are informed when their child will be taking part and on those days they should come to school wearing suitable clothing, they do not need to wear or bring school uniform.
We are lucky to have our own dedicated woodland area and field which we can use for these purposes.
At St Giles we believe that Forest School Sessions are hugely beneficial to all our pupils. We work hard to plan activities that will both engage and educate our pupils.
At Forest School children develop their team working skills, become more independent, develop risk assessment skills and a love of nature and the outdoors.
Research now acknowledges the ethos of Forest Schools - that children and young people are stimulated by the outdoors. Over time they typically experience, an increase in their self-belief, confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem-solving skills as well as all round emotional well-being.
Forest School sets learning in a different context for children where they can undertake a range of practical activities and carry out small achievable tasks. At Forest School children can develop their team working skills and also learn to become more independent. Those who are unfamiliar with woodlands and green spaces can become confident in using them and this can form the basis of a life-long relationship with natural spaces.
Our vision is to bring out the best in every child and we believe that the Forest Schools programme provides a wonderful opportunity to do this.
