Woodland Lessons
At St Giles, every child takes part in woodland learning. Each class enjoys a full term of sessions each year, spending a morning learning outdoors whatever the weather.
Parents are informed in advance, and on woodland days children should come to school in suitable outdoor clothing rather than school uniform.
We are fortunate to have our own dedicated woodland area and field, which provide a safe and enriching environment for these sessions. We believe woodland learning is highly beneficial for all pupils and carefully plan activities that are both engaging and educational. During sessions, children develop teamwork, independence and risk‑awareness, alongside a love of nature and the outdoors.
Forest School approaches are widely recognised for their positive impact on children’s confidence, communication, problem‑solving skills and emotional wellbeing. Learning outdoors offers a different and valuable context, helping children build resilience and form a lasting connection with the natural world.
Our vision is to bring out the best in every child, and we believe our woodland programme plays an important role in achieving this.
